On a visit to the Ontario SPCA, fully intending to adopt an adult dog, we were introduced to a litter of three puppies that were rescued from an abusive environment. Although their start to life was dismal, they were still happy to see us and full of energy. The two most energetic puppies immediately gravitated to my wife (who was the driving force behind getting a dog) but the shy runt of the litter came over to me. Three days later we brought her home where she quickly became a family member. Still terrified of the big wide world out there, she acts like a perfectly happy dog in her home, yard, and long walks in surrounding conservation areas.
